AI is already in your child's homework tab

It sits inside search, translation, exam preparation, social feeds and university research. Nobody installed it on purpose. It arrived inside things families already owned.
AI đã ở trong gia đình chúng ta.
70%
of teens aged 13–18 have used at least one generative AI tool.
40%
have used generative AI to help with a school assignment.
49%
of their parents had not talked with their teen about it.
Homework changed before the rules did. The question at home is no longer "Did you use AI?"
"Which part is yours?"
Source: Common Sense Media / Ipsos, The Dawn of the AI Era (2024), survey of 1,045 U.S. teens and their parents. International data shared to open the conversation; not a statistic about Vietnamese families.

Most parents can't say for sure whether their child uses AI

Among U.S. parents whose teen had already used generative AI, fewer than four in ten knew it. The rest either assumed their child hadn't, or simply weren't sure.
This seminar is not about catching anyone out. It is about closing that gap with calm, specific conversations your child will actually take part in.
Khoảng cách nhận biết giữa cha mẹ và con.
Out of every 100 parents whose teen had used generative AI
37 knew their teen used it
23 thought they hadn't
39 were unsure

AI predicts. It does not guarantee truth.

A fluent, confident, well-formatted answer can still be wrong. Researchers at NIST call this "confabulation". Test yourself with one of the activities from the seminar.
Confidence may attract our attention. Evidence should earn our trust.
Sự tự tin thu hút sự chú ý, nhưng bằng chứng mới tạo nên niềm tin.

We shape our tools and thereafter our tools shape us.
Who wrote it?
A · Marshall McLuhan
B · John M. Culkin
C · Winston Churchill

See the answer

John M. Culkin published this wording in 1967, while explaining McLuhan's ideas. Churchill's 1943 line was about buildings, not tools. Versions of it are often credited to McLuhan or Churchill, so a quick search can point confidently to the wrong person.

If five AI tools agree, what would you still check? That is the habit we will practise together. Save your seat →

Four parts, one practical goal

Notice what is already here. Learn what still needs human judgement. Leave with one conversation, one agreement and one habit to try this week.
01

Spot AI in daily life

Nhận diện AI trong đời sống
Search summaries, translation, study apps, social feeds, camera filters and university research: where AI already sits in your home. Why a fluent answer can still be wrong.
02

How learning is shifting

Công nghệ thay đổi cách học
AI may speed up answer-finding, but education still depends on judgement. The valuable effort now happens before and after the first draft. From finding answers to owning the work.
03

Digital literacy as a family advantage

Năng lực số là lợi thế của cả gia đình
Not gadget expertise. Four capabilities that outlive every platform: Reach, Judge, Make, Protect. From policing to coaching.
04

A practical guide for this week

Bắt đầu từ một cuộc trò chuyện nhỏ
Write a family AI agreement, know the signals that mean it's time to step in, and choose one action to take home. Talk · Read · Agree.
The fourth swap is for the phone.
It's the hardest conversation in most homes, and we'll unpack it live with the Q&A.

Join the seminar

Change one sentence, change the conversation

Warmth is not permissiveness. It is what keeps the truth available. Three of the four conversation swaps from the seminar.
Instead of "Did AI do this?"
"Show me what is yours."
Invite the process, not a confession.
Instead of "You cannot use AI."
"Which use is allowed here?"
Make the boundary specific.
Instead of "Why did you believe that?"
"What made it seem reliable?"
Turn blame into source-checking.

Tools you can use at the dinner table

Every family leaves with ready-to-use routines, built on guidance from UNICEF, UNESCO, OECD, NIST, the American Academy of Pediatrics and Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology.
6
rules

A family AI agreement

Six short rules, written together and bilingual so everyone can sign. For example: "Explain it back in your own words." The others: check important facts, keep private information private, follow school rules, protect sleep, speak up.
4
questions

Four questions before trusting any answer

Works for an AI answer, a viral video or a group-chat message. For example: "Where did this come from?" Then: what's missing, what would change my mind, and what part is mine?
5
lenses

Five lenses for screen habits

Screen time needs more than a clock. For example: "What is this crowding out: sleep, study or people?" The full set: content, context, calm, crowding out, communication.
4
signals

When to pause and step in

Four signals that don't automatically mean wrongdoing, but do call for a calm, brief, warm conversation. For example: secrecy about tools or accounts. The others: disruption, high stakes, harm.
On stage at Westlink in August 2026
"You can help your child ask better questions, verify information and think independently."
Assoc. Prof. Ali Al-Dulaimi
School of Computing & Innovative Technologies, British University Vietnam (BUV)
Assoc. Prof. Al-Dulaimi is an academic at BUV's School of Computing & Innovative Technologies. In this seminar he explains what AI actually does in plain language for parents, backed by current evidence and activities you can repeat at home, with time for your own questions. Delivered in partnership with British University Vietnam and hosted by Westlink International School Hanoi.

Help your child ask better questions

Stay interested in what they are doing with AI. One afternoon is enough to start the conversation.
Hãy tiếp tục quan tâm đến cách các em sử dụng công nghệ.

02 Read: look at one answer together and check one reliable source.
